This listing is for a lovely Sterling Silver long cigarette case with embossed Art Nouveau decoration, c. 1900.
The exterior of the silver case has an all-over design of scrolling leaves that covers both sides with a small cartouche on one side which holds a fancy 2-letter engraved monogram "A M". The cigarette case has a nice clean gilded interior with an engine turned design. There is an elaborately pierced decorated hinged spring arm that would hold he cigarettes secure on one side. The case has a long, tight hinge with the case opening and closing correctly. Marked on interior pierced spring arm with the trademark stamp of the James E. Black Co. in business in Attleboro MA from 1889-1936 and "Sterling, 1255".
Measures 4 3/4" long, 3 1/4" wide and is 3/8" (at center). Weighs 145 grams.
The cigarette case is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting only minor signs of normal wear.
