    Description

This art poster is restored from a 1950's print that features two passenger trains meeting on a double track along a river.
The Seaboard Air Line railroad was created In 1875 when several North Carolina and Virginia railroads were tied together by John M. Robinson as the backbone of the SEL. In 1900, the Seaboard Air Line Railway was created with its new acquisitions. This "air line" formed 3 years before the Wright Brothers introduced the world to manned flight on the coast of North Carolina. By 1927, SEL's southeastern trackage finally connected all the way to Miami, which opened it to the lucrative passenger and freight market to Florida and broke up the rail monopoly to Miami held by its rival Atlantic Coast Lines (ACL). The Seaboard entered the streamlined era with numerous trains connecting the South with Northern cities. Two of its famous passenger routes were the "Silver Meteor" and "Orange Blossom Special" which connected New York to Miami and all points between. In 1967, during an era of railroad consolidations, the ACL and Seabord finally merged to form the new Seaboard Coast Line; dropping the "air line". Eventually, they merged with the Chessie System to be part of today's CSX.
